Activity Groups

The following are the Activity Groups currently offered by Forfar and District U3A:

 Card Making

Activity Leader: Linda Robertson (linda@bractullo.co.uk)                             This group meets in the Community Wing of Forfar Academy on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month.There are a few places currently available so please contact Linda if you are interested in coming along.

 Walking

Activity Leader: Maureen Simpson (mostan@talktalk.net)   
Walkers: Currently  there are monthly walks supported by 12 members and planned to be approximately 6 miles each in total. Walks of different grades may be planned in the future if there is demand. The date and venue for the next walk is agreed at each meeting, and interested members should therefore check the Forfar and District U3A calendar monthly.

Strollers: Currently there are 3 members supporting planned strolls. Check the Calendar for dates and venues.

 Languages

 Books

Activity Leader: Lesley Walker (lesleywalker@cairnlea.demon.co.uk)

12 members currently meet monthly in each others homes to discuss the books they have selected. They also share favourite readingsfor pleasure and enjoy the company and views of others with a similar interest in literature.

 Local History

Activity Leader: Vacant

There are about 12 people interested in attending this group. Two speakers have provided stimulating presentationsand some interesting sites have been visited, but someone with experience in this field is required to give guidance to the group.

 Art / Art Appreciation

Activity Leader: Laura Watt ( lfs.littlefield@googlemail.com)

This group has been meeting regularly to discuss art and artists and to make relevant visits. Those interested should refer to the calendar monthly.

 Film

This will be properly organised in the Winter but in the meantime we will meet at the DCA in Dundee whenever it has a "Senior Citizen Kane" event. These are on occasional Thursdays at 10.30 am at a reduced price which even includes coffee and biscuits! There are no trailers or adverts, but an introductory talk!  Dates  will appear on our calendar as they become available.

 Lunch

Activity Leader:  Helma Purves (helma34@live.com.

 The lunch group consists of U3A members meeting for an informal lunch and chat. Venues are in and around Forfar, though we have ventured as far as Broughty Ferry on the odd occasion! We meet on the 4th Monday of each month (12.15 for 12.30pm) and would welcome some new members. Why not join us at our next lunch on Feb 27th? You can be sure of a warm welcome.  Sewing/Knitting

 Activity Leader: Mary Pickstonem.pickstone@btinternet.com)

This group welcomes more members, including some one with knitting and sewing experience and ideas, as well as those with an interest and enthusiasm in these crafts. Meetings will be on the last Monday of each month. If you would like to join us just bring along something you are working on, and enjoy a nice chat and cuppa at the same time!

Beginners Bridge

This group currently has its full complement of members. 

Tai Chi

Activity Leader:   Grant Cromar

The Tai Chi group meets in the Community Wing, Forfar Academy, every Friday from 2pm till 3.30pm..



In the original survey there was quite strong support for other groups, especially gardening, photography, and line dancing.
Anyone who would like such a group, including anyone prepared to lead or at least help to launch such a group, can contact Jim  or raise it at the next general meeting.
